Stay cool in Phoenix on desert ice

The Ice Den, Scottsdale
The official practice home of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, the Ice Den in North Scottsdale is more than just a place to skate.
|
Featuring two NHL-sized ice rinks (with a third slated to open in November of 2011) with seating for up to 500 spectators, the Ice Den hosts youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating, ice skating classes, and of course open public skate sessions. Additionally, Coyotes practices are free and open to the public, so you can get your NHL fix without having to spring for a ticket.
This 120,000 square-foot facility is also home to the Mountainside Fitness Platinum Center, the Over Easy breakfast diner, 18 Degrees Neighborhood Grill, the Chilly Bean Cafe, and Coyotes Ice Sports full service hockey and skating pro shop. You can work out, hit the ice, grab something to eat, and have your skates sharpened -- all in one place!
There's so much going on here that it's a good idea to check the website to make sure there will be a rink available for public skating before you head out, but then again -- there's enough to do here, you can easily manage to find something to keep you busy until a session opens up. And who knows, you might just find yourself signing up for a rec hockey league while you're at it!
